Increasing demand for more energy-efficient and sustainable homes and buildings is a key driver for growth at a Mid Wales architects’ practice which has appointed a dedicated energy consultant.
Daryl Price joins Hughes Architects to strengthen its achievements in the design of highly efficient buildings using sustainable materials and solutions.
He joins the practice, which has offices at Newtown and Welshpool, Powys and Aberystwyth in Ceredigion, at a time of expansion.

“Our values have always centred on the delivery of efficient buildings in order to reduce energy costs and their impact on the environment,” said Doug Hughes, Managing Director and Principal Architect.
“We’re committed to the RIBA Climate Challenge 2030 and our objective is to drive forward the best architectural designs to reduce the built environment’s impact on the environment and reliability on high energy usage, both in terms of the construction and lifetime of a property.
“Daryl brings with him a wealth of experience in all aspects of energy efficiency and building better and well specified buildings. We want to strengthen on what we’re already achieving, and this is one part of that commitment.”
Materials and design practices evolve continually
Daryl said: “Good building design specification is one element in the architectural and construction process. Materials and design practices are constantly evolving, with new techniques and methods being developed all the time.
“I’m looking forward to working with the architectural team on a broad range of domestic and commercial work, including large-scale housing developments and commercial projects.”
The appointment comes a week after Hughes Architects announced it was expanding into larger offices in Welshpool and Aberystwyth in Mid Wales as part of its ongoing growth in Wales, Shropshire and the border areas.
