Llanidloes Hospital Palliative Care Unit

When a rural community wanted a specialist palliative care unit for patients to stay at in the town - close to their homes – they decided to fundraise for the facility at their local hospital.

Our brief from the Powys Teaching Health Board was to design an extension to Llanidloes Hospital in Powys that would allow access to the on-site medical staff, while creating a sense of independence for the patient from the main building.

We decided to demonstrate our plans through 3D visuals. This allowed us to show how the eventual unit would look and feel like by immersing the client and the community into the plans. The designs showed how the unit has a soft feel, with a homely interior, combined with an outdoor area leading from the patient’s room and an area where family and friends can stay.

3D is one way of visualising plans for residential, commercial or industrial buildings. The vision is interpreted from initial sketches and plans drawn up by an architect. Using specialist software, the final view allows a much more realistic aspect of how the building will look once completed. Our in-house interior designer is also able to convey the internal fixtures and fittings.
