Planners give green light to private housing development in Powys town

Plans put forward by Hughes Architects for 96 new homes at Llanidloes, Powys have been approved by councillors.

Powys County Council’s planning committee approved outline planning permission for the development of land at Bryn Ddu Road for the new development adjacent to the existing Dolgwenith and Tan-y-Bryn housing estates.

The approval last week follows a Pre-Planning Consultation with the local community by Hughes Architects on behalf of its client, Andrew Thomas, before the formal planning application was submitted.

“This is yet another successful application to bring forward land for good quality and much needed homes in this part of Mid Wales,” said Doug Hughes, Founder and Principal Architect at Hughes Architects.

“We worked closely with our client, ensuring the plans were relevant to the needs of the community and would provide quality, choice and variety.”

With an under supply of housing in the area and the Powys County Council Unitary Development Plan having expired in June last year, the area is deemed to have no housing land supply for young couples or families.

Hughes Architects demonstrated how bringing forward the land for housing would provide part of this much needed supply.

The plans have been carefully thought out to ensure they provide relevant housing stock, along with necessary landscaping, access and design, in keeping with the local community.

The 4.1 hectare site sits next to existing housing estates.

Mr Hughes added: “This is yet another successful housing application for us and demonstrates our track record in working with landowners, developers and individuals to bring forward land for housing.

“Whether that be for a one off private home or small or large scale private and public/social housing developments. We ensure our knowledge and expertise in planning and design works for our clients.”

Hughes Architects has recently worked on similar plans throughout Powys, Shropshire and Herefordshire, in addition to its planning and building design work in Ceredigion and Cardiff.

With its team based at Newtown and Welshpool in Powys, Aberystwyth in Ceredigion and Cardiff, it covers Wales and the English border counties.

Clients include private householders requiring small scale extensions, renovations and new builds, through to large scale private and social housing developments and commercial and industrial projects.
