I started working at Hughes Architects in 2016 as a graphic designer working on a model of my town (Newtown) in the well-known building game Minecraft.
My role at Hughes Architects is to help create Newtown in the Minecraft game universe to use as a tool and ideas board for local people in the area to illustrate their ideas in the form of Minecraft.
This is to help regenerate an ideal view of the town which could attract visitors into the community.
Using similar skills to architecture in Minecraft, it helps show that the company helps create ideas and designs in many platforms.
I have always been an avid gamer and also taken a keen interest in games like Minecraft. Known as the 'New Lego,’ Minecraft could soon join other architectural programs and in this company and I’m helping demonstrate this possibility. Like many young citizens in Mid Wales, I believe in modernisation and updating our towns to create a sleek modern town of could draw in people to come and live in the area. Helping to build a model of Newtown in Minecraft can help make this reality and encourage young people, many of which could play games like Minecraft to take their ideas to a virtual drawing board.
Being the eldest son of the head of the company, Doug Hughes, I have seen the company expand incredibly from its beginnings in 2001. I have seen how the company has developed from a small business to a multi-branch company and it shows how local businesses can thrive like big franchises.
Working at a company which uses modern ideas and in a modern environment is just some of the reasons why working at Hughes Architects is an enjoyable experience.
