£7.5 million social care housing development is good news for Powys

2016 was a busy year for Hughes Architects working on residential, commercial and industrial property projects, as well as numerous planning consultant activities on behalf of individuals and businesses.

One of the larger projects we were pleased to see the completion of was Llys Glan-yr-Afon, a £7.5million development providing additional social care housing facilities in Newtown, Powys.

We were building design architects for this state-of-the-art facility that was opened in November last year providing much needed social housing within the care housing sector.

Doug Hughes, managing director and principal architect at Hughes Architects and Richard Lewis, architect, had a tour of the facility to see how their design has worked now the facility is open.

“It’s an amazing facility to see at work,” said Doug. “We’re very pleased to see how our design has been constructed and completed in what is a modern facility with the best care facilities for its tenants.”

The facility is run by Wales and West Housing and was part funded with a social housing grant. The company worked in partnership with Powys County Council.

Anwyl Construction undertook the construction of the development.

Cllr Stephen Hayes, Powys County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Services, said: “The state of the art accommodation at Llys Glan-yr-Afon offers a first class care and support facility right in the heart of Newtown.”

We’re very pleased at Hughes Architects to work with a range of housing associations, local authorities, the third sector and others on health and social housing projects throughout Wales and England.

With offices at Newtown and Welshpool in Powys, Mid Wales and Aberystwyth in Ceredigion, the company is one of the main architects working on project from small extensions and renovations, to new build homes, business and industrial units and large scale housing projects.
